Speaking of Busy Bees in my last post, we had a visitor yesterday after school that spent the night with us.
Super Bee.
Super Bee is Elliott’s classroom mascot.
He gets to take turns visiting the students and goes home to the kids with good {bee}havior for the day!
We wanted to make sure that Super Bee had a buzzing good time at our casa so we spent the afternoon outside riding trikes and scooters.
Here is SB sitting on the bumper of the car watching…
Elliott put SB in her Hello Kitty purse and we took a stroll around the block.
She was sure to leave it a little unzipped so SB wouldn’t get too warm!
We met some nice new neighbors and introduced them to SB.
After dinner, we went to Golden Spoon for dessert. {Red Mango was closed!}
Here is SB eyeing the Peanut Butter/Vanilla combo with mini dark chocolate chips:
Super Bee comes with a little journal where the kids document his {I don’t know why I assume SB is male} travels…
When we got home from Golden Spoon, Elliott drew a picture of her blue scooter, her yogurt, Rascal and Super Bee himself.
{She drew Rascal because he was VERY curious about SB and sniffed and sniffed him. We had to keep an extra close eye on SB because Rassy has a history of chewing small stuffed animals!!}
I did a little journal write up of our afternoon and evening as Elliott dictated.
We hope you had fun, Super Bee!
Too bad we didn’t get you on a Friday night so we could’ve taken you out on the town and shown you a real good time over the weekend!
The concert in the park series has come to a close.
Last night we thoroughly enjoyed the Journey cover band, Don’t Stop Believin’.
They’re WAY 80’s cool…
EVERY song was awesome.

I’ve mentioned this little libation before, but wanted to remind you of it:
This is what we bring to the concerts.
LOTS of ice in the pitcher, 1 can defrosted pink lemonade {don’t add water}, the empty can full of vodka and 3 beers of choice.
As you can see, cheap vodka and store brand lemonade work just fine.
They all blend together and form a refreshing, citrusy beverage.
It’s called the Hop, Skip & Go Naked.
But we can just call it the “Hop Skip” for now since, from my last post “Edible Thongs” and a “Hop, Skip & Go Naked” all in one weekend, I don’t want you all to get the wrong idea about where this blog might be headed! 😉

The salty sweet combination of a coconut Dum Dum and a tortilla chip:
The purple girlies:
Lots and lots of “Believers”:
The place was PACKED.
The “no nap” thing lately is kicking in for earlier bed times:
This was a great way to start winding down our summer fun.
Next weekend we’re looking forward to going to San Diego for Labor Day and celebrating my Mom’s Happy Day.
Then I will officially be in Fall mode…
Cozy crock pot meals, pumpkins, autumn scented candles, falling leaves, nip in the air, lots of football…
A HUGE thank you to my sweet father-in-law for arranging this!
He may or may not LOVE Vegas.
It’ll be trés magnifique!

Also, Jay bought me my beach cruiser. Should be here next week!
Been wanting one since my carefree days of living in Pacific Beach back in college.
If I could just reminisce for a moment…
My best friend, Denise, and I lived in a, we’ll just call it “beachy slum”, 2-bedroom apartment just steps from Mission Bay.
I used to wear a pair of brown clogs around the place because I didn’t want my feet to touch the NASTY carpet and she’d make fun of me.
We would try to catch cockroaches under plastic tumblers.
The front door was hollow and I don’t believe was intended for a FRONT door….bedroom door maybe.
Oh my…
I think the rent was $600.
We split it 3 ways, but I had my own room so I paid a little more.
Oh my….
those were the days.
I used to help Dee do bra and CD inventories, but that’s a whole different post for a whole different day.
I LOVED living in this little rundown triplex.
So many memories.
So long ago.
SOOOOOO different from life as it is today.
And I wouldn’t change ANY of it for the world.
Thanks for letting me go back and remember times past!
Now, where was I?
Oh yes, the bike…it’s an early b-day gift from my sweet and generous hubby.
I cannot wait to lay eyes on it.
Now to look for a fun helmet to compliment the beachy, Hawaiian feel.
Thinking about embellishing whatever helmet I find with a little bling…
Planning some fun family bike outings as Jay also just purchased a 2 seat trailer for the back of his bike. This year we’re planning on enjoying the holiday lights at Griffith Park on bikes. I’ll have to figure out how to drink my salted caramel hot chocolate and ride a bike at the same time!
This morning was busy…drop-off, Book Fair, PTA meeting…
Elementary school is no joke!
I’m already trying to plan how I can volunteer in the classroom, help with PTA sponsored fun like the Father/Daughter dance, Jog-A-Thon, stay on top of homework and run a household.
Not to mention fitting in 20 minutes reading time each night.
I admit, we have not been the best book readers lately. We have oodles of good books and go to the library from time to time, but we need to be better about sitting down and logging reading hours this school year.
The kids {especially Holdy} will sit and read on their own, but I too enjoy a good children’s book. My current faves are the Fancy Nancy and Pinkalicious series.
Elliott made her wish list yesterday when her class visited the book fair in the library. She copied the names of the titles she wanted onto a sheet of paper and I went and tracked down her book choices this morning.
A book caught my eye, however:
{amazon.com}
I was drawn to the darling title, but mostly the vintage inspired illustrations!
Not to mention that it’s the cutest little story.
With the varicella vaccine nowadays, our kids won’t experience this pesky virus like we did, but I was going to use this book as a way to explain how vaccines {and as our kids know them…”shots”} work and the benefits of them.
So, if you see this adorable title at your school book fair or know someone who has chicken pox, think about picking it up! It truly is a story that I’m going to have fun reading ~ rhymes that roll off your tongue accompanied by the tastiest illustrations.
As for me, my latest read is this:
{amazon.com}
Yes, I love Tori {and Dean!}. I’ve read her other two books. I refuse to buy them so I just reserve them at the library…they are super duper quick reads. My kind of books.
I don’t know how well I’d do in a book club.
Unless they like these types of mindless reads. And drink wine. And enjoy delicious little finger foods.
I could do that.
But yes, I am reading this now and plan to start Bethenny Frankel’s books next.
Love her, too.
Can you see a pattern here?
Reality TV junkie. {raising hand}
Nevertheless, we are starting to read AT LEAST 20 minutes a night here at Chez Aspiras.
We can become immune to chicken pox, but I certainly don’t want my little ones to ever be immune to reading!
What children’s books do y’all enjoy?
Always looking for some new ones…it’s much more fun to read to your kids when YOU like the book, too!
