Pinky Up

Mother’s Day weekend was fabulous.

Special cards and handmade gifts from the two that made me a mama. Pedicures. Meals treated to by Gramma and prepared by Jay. Mango margaritas. Homemade Cake Batter ice cream. Beautiful Mother’s Day mass. Fancy tea at a local tea house. Pool time. Taking a nap under an open window letting through a cool breeze.

It was just what I needed.

Here are some Mama’s Day moments…

{clotted cream}

{the scones were my fave ~ with clotted cream and blackberry preserves}

{petit fours and other miniature desserts}

{my mama, aka gramma}

{mama and her babies ~ elliott was upset they didn’t serve pancakes!}

*****

I LOVE high teas. I wish I could attend/have them weekly, but enjoying them only once in a while for special occasions maintains their charm, I think.

I have fond memories of each and every tea I have attended…to name a couple, The Empress Hotel in Victoria and The Hotel Del Coronado. Holden’s Baby Shower was held at the cutest little tea house in Gilroy, Jordan Rose Tea Haven, which is no longer in business unfortunately, but that is one special day that I will never forget.

This Mother’s Day Tea was no exception…once we diverted Elliott’s attention away from pancakes and found a butterscotch scone, all was well with the world.

Thanks babe, for the special treat.

Putting up my pinky and sipping with four of my favorite people made me feel like royalty!

P.S. Jay made beef kebab and saffron rice for din din…

It was delish, babe. Thanks, again & again!

Sweet Sippin’

I am not an iced tea drinker per se.

If I do drink iced tea, it must have lots of lemon and a little sweetner. The southerners have it all figured out with their infamous {sweet tea}. It’s a little too sweet for me, but I wanted to share a recipe that strikes the perfect balance between lemon and sugar and will have you thinking you’re on a wicker rocking chair under a leafy palm porch fan…

6 cups boiling water

5 Lemon Zinger Celestial Seasoning tea bags

1/2 cup sugar

Drop tea bags into boiling water that has been removed from the burner. Let steep for 8-12 minutes. Remove tea bags and pour warm tea into a pitcher and add 1/2 cup sugar. Stir until dissolved and fill the rest of the pitcher with ice. Serve with an extra squeeze of lemon and a mint sprig, if desired.

{Another summertime favorite is the Arnold Palmer ~ half iced tea [unsweetened] & half lemonade}

Happy Monday!

Tea For One

Here’s a little Wednesday randomness.

I am addicted to Coffeemate creamers. I know they are bad and I should learn to drink my coffee black or with nonfat milk, but I am hooked on the Fat Free Hazelnut and the Parisian Almond Créme. Recently they were on sale for $1 and I stocked up and tried Sweet Italian Créme. Yum!

There was a brand new one on the shelf ~ Honey Vanilla Créme.

Hmmm, not too sure who puts honey in their coffee, but I thought, I’ll give it a whirl. The cashier told me that some woman came in and bought a whole case of the stuff…then I was very intrigued.

I opened it this morning and took a whiff. I just couldn’t imagine that it would taste good in my nice, hot cup of French Roast. It dawned on me that this would be perfect for tea.

And it was…

After a 2-bag, 5-minute steep it’s just the perfect amount of sweetness with a touch of honey in my Earl Grey.

Tea for two is nice, but tea for one is much better when the house is quiet with two sleeping angels.

I think the “A” on my mug stands for {A}lone!

Ahhhhhh!
