Stale Bread
Today Holden and I had a little morning adventure.
It hit me, after submitting his kindergarten registration papers to the office this week, that in just about 5 short months he will begin his academic career.
My baby will start kindergarten.
In 5 months.
5 months translates to about 2 weeks these days.

I have been stashing the old ends of the bread into the freezer for the past couple weeks for the sole purpose of taking him to sit and feed the ducks down at local Bridgeport Marketplace.
What could be simpler? Stale bread and a beautiful location just minutes from our front door.
As I sat and watched him jump and climb and search out the perfect spot to toss his ripped up bread, I recalled the days when my sister and I were children growing up in San Diego and my mom would take us to Vacation Village {now Paradise Point}. We would feed the ducks under the shade of a big tree and then walk up to the top of the tower and look out at the view and down at the guests splashing in the turquoise pool.

Sweet. Simple. Memories.
A Happy Meal for him, a 6″ tuna sub & raspberry iced tea for me…
…and stale bread for the ducks and pesky Canadian geese!
Sitting out in 80* weather in early March is such a treat.
I hope he enjoyed it as much as I did.
And as much as it hurts, I hope he enjoys kindergarten as much as I want him to.
Five years has gone by in a flash so I know 5 months will be here in the blink of an eye.

I remember vacation village well!!
Savor those last days…Once they start in school they are taking their first step into this big world.

Thanks, Sherry! Life seems to change so drastically once they start school, huh? It’s the big leagues…no more casual weekday play dates and spontaneous outings! ;-( I remember being at the top of the VV tower and wanting desperately to be down swimming in that pool! Who knew feeding ducks could be so memorable? 😉 Have a great weekend! XO

What a lovely day you must have had. Enjoy him. It seems just a short while ago I was doing those things with Vicki.

Sounds like a perfect day and a great reminder to enjoy every day that we have with our little.

Yes, start stuffing your old bread into the freezer for duck feeding dates with your little Taylor! 😉 I have learned that it’s the littlest things that they remember, not always the trips to Disneyland! Enjoy seeing her grow on your blog, but I do need to get my hands on her soon! Possibly this summer we can arrange a day together. XO

You DO remember all those adventures to Vacation Village! Remember the ducks stalking us and the stroller even before we got to their “feeding grounds”? Yes…pesky indeed. I am very teary reading this post and seeing the old San Diego landmark we used to visit regularly. Thanks for repeating the memory with precious Holden!
