The art of a handwritten letter is easily lost in this world of instant communication. But, seeing someone’s handwriting, no matter the style, on the outside of an envelope in my mailbox, always makes opening mail enjoyable.
My Mama was the queen of handwritten letters. She’d make a list at the beginning of each month of who she was going to write to – one person each day for the most part. Then pick out the necessary birthday, anniversary, graduation cards. She had a box with all her stationary stuff in one place – fun pens, return address labels, her address book, stationary, cards, etc. So organized.
So after she died last year, I decided I would take her example and have it be one of my ways to keep her memory alive everyday. It hasn’t been easy and I don’t always get 30 or 31 cards out each month (I try for Monday – Friday), but it’s a great reminder of loving others in five minutes a day.
(Hmmm … now you have me thinking of sharing my little secret in a blog post.)

Oh Christi, Thank you for this. Taking the time to write someone a thank you note or just a simple “Hello!” was also instilled in me growing up. It’s so beautiful that you have that memory of your mother, and even though I know it would be difficult to encapsulate the meaning that her wonderful handwritten letter writing has to you, I think you should share it with your readers. I think too many don’t realize the power behind receiving a lovely hand penned note in their mailbox. I know you will find the right words at the right time when and if you decide to share….but I feel you simply must! 😉 Your mama would be so proud, I know. Hugs to you friend.
