Kaleidoscope ~ The Color Run

Well, hello readers!

Are any of you still out there? I sure do kinda miss blogging and hope to post more now that the holidays are upon us….my absolute favorite time of the year.

But, what I’m sharing today is the fun time we had this past Saturday morning in Ventura participating in The Color Run. We’d been wanting to cross this off our bucket list for awhile now and coupled with the fact that my vision for this year’s Christmas card involved lots of color, we needed to get this done sooner than later so mama could make sure her vision would be carried out. 😉

So, we rose super early, threw back some coffee, tied up our tennies and headed out the 126 before the sun came up. Needless to say, the kids couldn’t understand why we woke them up “in the middle of the night”, but once we got there and got our bibs, shirts, temporary tattoos, and headbands, their excitement built.

The route took us down Main Street and by the Mission San Buenaventura. It turned out to be a gorgeous morning for “The Happiest 5K on the Planet”.

Before we knew it, we ran through the final color station and the kids had fun gathering samples of KIND Bars, McDonald’s smoothies & Oberto Beef Jerky!

Once you cross the finish line, you are handed your own powder dye pack and encouraged to partake in the group color bomb that happens every 20 minutes or so. The kids were a little skeptical at first, but quickly warmed up to the idea!

So glad we finally did this….the whole family had a blast and the kids are asking when we can do another one.

May I suggest adding this event to your 2015 Bucket List?

So fun!

Mud Run Eve Eats ~ Tequila Lime Chicken Pasta

Jay signed up for the Merrell Down & Dirty Mud Run again this year ~ his third year in a row.

It’s a lot of fun to be a spectator as well as participate…I partook last year and it was quite the comedy. You can check that out here.

Jay requested a nice pasta meal the night before the 10K and, of course, I was quick to say, “Sure!”. He decided on Tequila Lime Chicken Fettuccini ~ a fabulous choice, I thought.

Cilantro? Jalapeños? Tequila? Lime?

Absolutely.

I followed the recipe precisely, however, subbed half & half for the heavy cream to feel a little bit less guilty. Also, wasn’t too sure about the soy sauce ingredient since this isn’t an Asian dish, but decided to roll with it. I didn’t think it took away from the tequila lime flavor at all, though.

We both thoroughly enjoyed it. Personally, I thought it needed more heat. Next time I think I will use 2 fresh jalapenos and leave the seeds and the ribs in since that is where all the heat is {this time I only used one and took out most of the seeds and innards}.

We were up bright and early to report for duty at Lake Castaic!

Jay did awesome and watching from the sidelines this year made me want to set a goal to do it again next year….

So, I guess I am half way committing to doing the 5K again next year.

I’d like to get a team together and make a party out of it. Anyone interested?

Definitely going to need to {train} better and tackle some bigger hills leading up to the race, but mostly it’s a novelty event and just getting out there and getting dirty is what it’s all about!

Hope you all had a wonderful weekend.

XO

Tough Mudder

Last year Jay participated in the Merrell Down & Dirty Mud Run.

It looked like {fun} so I told myself I’d do it this year…

I have absolutely NO upper body strength so I was nervous about a few of the obstacles…namely the 8 foot rope wall at the END of the course.

When you are completely exhausted and out of fuel.

But I forged ahead and told myself that I just wanted to finish.

And survive.

And not have to be taken out on a stretcher.

And have fun.

It was a gorgeous morning on the lake.

Jay was a rockstar. He did the 10K and made it look like a walk in the park.

My friend Vicki and I did the 5K and made it look like I don’t know what {at least I did!}

In our corral…completely oblivious to what was ahead!

I would say the first 1/2 to 3/4 of the 5K was UP hill. Brutal. We started out around 10:45 so it was getting warm already. Made it through the first two obstacles no prob, a net crawl and scaling a short wall. Then came the ascent up a LARGE mountain. Like LARGE. Like you could see the trail of people WAY up above and ask yourself “Is that where we’re going?” large, but there was no turning back…just one foot in front of the other. Might I add that we had to drop and do 20 push-ups halfway up the mountain. Once at the top, the next obstacle was a huge inflatable slide that you had to climb up. I was extremely graceful going down the slide until I shot off the end of it onto the ground! Nice. After a mini mud crawl, we began our descent to the finish.

{How many Marines does it take to get a girl over the climbing wall? Tough!}

{Lake wade}

This was the best part…

We survived!

Two dirty mamas!

Our proof ~ dog tag medal…

There you have it ladies and gents.

Wasn’t purty, but I did it.

Would I do it again?

Yes, but I’d want to be in MUCH better shape and several pounds lighter.

Duh.

But it was fun.

Mudder, May I?

I’m in for the 5K Merrell Mud Run on April 15…

Jay did it last year and it looks like a ton of fun!

My friend, Vicki, and I have measured a 3.1 mile route {with hills!} and have tried to decrease our time each Tuesday and Thursday morning.

We should be in good shape for a {leisurely} 12 minute mile by mid-April.

C’mon, it’ll be a blast. If you’re in the Orange County or LA area, head on up I-5 and join us at Castaic Lake.

We’re gonna get some fun matching shirts and {turn this mudder out}!

Is Your Husband As Dirty As Mine?

This morning we were up bright and early for the Merrell Down & Dirty Mud Run at Lake Castaic.

{the calm before the [mud] storm}

It was a gorgeous day for the 5K trail run which included short walls to scale, a waist deep wade through the lake, a rope wall and then the final mud crawl before the finish line.

{the perfect place for [a kodak moment]}

{thank goodness for bandanas}

By the way, the edamame hummus at TJ’s is AWESOME!

Jay did great and wants to try the 10K next year.

I’m going to definitely do the 5K and see how that goes….better work on my upper body strength!

The nice thing is that the lake is literally 15 minutes from our house.

Anyone wanna get a little team together, dress up and do it with me next year?

Put aside an old pair of tennies and let’s get dirty!

It seriously looked like so much fun.

Enjoy the rest of the beautiful weekend!
